About Counselling

Our sessions would provide a confidential supportive space to work together and explore your feelings. Often feelings build up inside until they are unbearable and you feel overwhelmed. Counselling gives you space to offload without feeling judged and can help you see your life and relationships from a different perspective.

We can work together to find new ways to manage negative thoughts and help you make sense of your emotions. Talking about past events and relationships can help you explore how they are affecting your present behaviour and thoughts about the future.

“The atmosphere you create in your room was very welcoming for me and I always felt safe and comfortable to tell you things without being judged. That was a completely new experience for me and one that I looked forward to every week. I came to like you a lot and felt looked after by you.”.

A personal approach

Our work together is based on a person centred approach which means that you and your concerns are the focus of the session and the work would be tailored to the best approach for you. Some people find it helpful to challenge negative thought processes and engrained beliefs that were once part of your survival strategy, but may no longer be relevant to your life today. Other people prefer to explore their feelings and what gives them meaning in a more open ended way. I can also work creatively when it is hard to find the words to express how you feel. I will integrate creative techniques, and other ways of working depending on the circumstance and your preference eg:

- CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy)
- Solution focussed therapy
- Creative techniques
- Mindfulness and grounding techniques
- Systemic

“You are sharply perceptive, creative and kind: not least when you challenge me. I can’t tell you how rich is what you give.”
